';Rant'; is Green Simms, Rant?

I get the jist of the time travel thing and that he went back in time to save his mother from Green raping her and then he married his mom to raise himself...but is Green another Rant or is he another time traveler?





If Green is Rant, then there were 2 living at the same time?';Rant'; is Green Simms, Rant?
It is almost impossible to put everything together in this story in one long list, but I am going to give it my best.








Basically I hope to logically explain how Rant Casey = Chester Casey = Green Taylor Simms





I think it is easiest to start at the beginning of the sequence of events, rather than starting at the earliest in time. Remember, this story really doesn’t have a beginning or an end…





It all starts with the scientists grabbing unmarked cars and colliding with other scientists to study the effect on accidents and the flow of traffic (p172). Then the scientists started DRVR Graphic Traffic radio to see what would happen if people knew exactly what had happened and if they would still slow down and rubberneck (p173). “Long before modern party crashing, the traffic engineers were running each other down” (p174).





If you remember, Echo’s parents were engineers who drove a grey sedan. “The car that hit us was another sedan owned by the county traffic division, exactly like the one my mother drove” (p163). “The police never found the ****** that smashed into my family” (p162). The police at scene of the accident said that Echo’s mother had crosses the center line in the road to cause the accident. There were no skid marks, so it is obvious that she crashed on purpose. “It’s only one of the secret goals in Party Crashing. Most people call it a Flashback” (p258). Echo’s mom was trying to travel back in time. However, the crash caused the driver of the other car to go back in time, hence no body in the other car in the crash that crippled Echo and killed her parents.





Now we put together who was the driver of the other car, the person who got sent back in time.





“The bad news is, that Charles Casey we found has been missing presumed dead for almost 16 years. He’d been a traffic-flow engineer for the city and died in a work related car accident. It seems he’d requisitioned a car from the department motor pool, then ran it head-on into another car, driven by a female co-worker. The woman and her husband were both killed. Their daughter, who’d been asleep in the backseat of their vehicle, was left handicapped by the accident. Charles Casey’s body was net recovered at the scene.” (p175)





On the previous page we found out that the investigator tracked down one candidate who was Rant’s father. His name was Charles Casey. “He did work a variety of city-government jobs while enrolled in college” (p174).





Now we tie in Charles Casey as a your Green Taylor Simms from Chester Casey’s quote, “This rich old coot named Simms says how, when he was Buster’s age and first moved to the city, he was in a car wreck. This Green Taylor Simms is a young man just driving along, and a car coming in the opposite direction, it crossed the center line without slowing down a hair, and slammed into the man’s car” (p254).





Later on p254 we see that Simms woke up in the hospital 4 days later, and when he asked what happened to his car, the doctors said what car? “The cops asked for his name and Citizen ID and Social Security numbers. And a day later, they told the man that he didn’t exist” (p255). “So, when Green Taylor Simms was twenty-three years old, he sneaks out of the hospital. As soon as they mention a move to the psych ward, he bails before they can put him behind a locked door” (p255).





“Driving, just trawling around, Rant told me that Green Taylor Simms had somehow fallen into the past some sixty years. Riding in the backseat of his own great-grandmother Hattie Shelby…”(p257-258).





Now that Charles Casey (Green Taylor Simms) had gone back in time he starts having sex with his very own great grandmother, Hattie. Esther was his next victim, and then Irene. Rant was born from Irene, essentially, Green Taylor Simms has created a super version of himself. That is why his taste and smell were so heightened. “With every sperm that met an egg. Simms claims he felt stronger. He was hoarding more gold, making a fortune, and stashing it for his future self” (p259).





Rant grows up and moves to the city. By now Green Taylor Simms is way older. 60 years pushed back in time, when Echo was only 8, would make Simms somewhere in his 80’s, and people continually referred to him as an old coot.





Rant figures out how to go back in time and tries to save his mom from being raped, but he ends up arrive too late and changes his name to Chester Casey and ends up raising himself. “And a mostly naked boy stepped out, shaking and wrapped in his own arms…I’m too late, he said, am I too late?” (p284-285). “The hospital ID bracelet that Chester wore that day, it’s dated from the day they pulled him out of the river. Nineteen years to the day before Rant plowed his car into the same stretch of water” (p285).





Let me know if this makes any sense, or if you find any logic flaws or holes.





The hardest part is putting together that Simms and Rant are in fact the same person. We know that he is because of the time that Simms tells Rant that he is him. Simms has disappeared from the story, and we can jump to the conclusion that in some parallel universe Rant either did make it back in time to stop the rape from happening, or Simms went back in time and killed Irene. Erasing that version of Charles Casey.





Remember towards the end of the book, it kept on saying that people start becoming erased from history, photos, etc., after they destroy their beginning to become imortal in time.





So yes, there are actually 3 Rants living at the same time.';Rant'; is Green Simms, Rant?
I haven't a clue what or what world, or even time zone you are talking about. I think it may be time to get away from the monitor and see a real life form. Perhaps even a professional one.

well yes and no. it was 3 individuals who split up into rant (buster) chet, and green simms. atleast thats what i think.
